Best 13 Gluten-Free Lipstick

Gluten is a protein found in foods such as wheat, rye, and barley. It is commonly used as a binding agent in food products because of its elasticity. For people who are gluten intolerant, these proteins can cause inflammation and pain in the small intestines.

Gluten-free lipstick has been on the market for quite some time now, but it’s still not widely known just how important this product really is to those with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). Lipstick contains several different ingredients containing gluten, including oils, waxes, preservatives, and colorants.

Some people report not getting 100% relief just by going gluten-free in their diet, and it is possible to ingest gluten from some of the cosmetic products we use. Luckily some cosmetics companies make quality gluten-free cosmetics and are aware of the risks of gluten.

Why should I buy Gluten-Free Lipstick?

If you are Celiac or have allergies related to gluten, you probably know by now that the gluten protein is too large to be absorbed by your skin. But you have to watch out with products that have any chance or being absorbed by your digestive track.

I am sure you have tasted a metallic flavor after wearing Lipstick. This is the alert that you have just ingested some. As you know this happens often. This is the reason why you need to buy gluten-free lipstick if you have any level of intolerance to Gluten.

How to know if my lipstick is gluten-free?

There are a couple of ways of knowing if you’re favorite brand of lipstick has gluten. The first is reading the ingredientes. If there is any wheat, barley, rye or any product derived for these like:

  • AMP-isostearoyl hydrolyzed wheat protein
  • hydrolyzed wheat protein (HWP)
  • hydrolyzed wheat gluten
  • Triticum lipids
  • Triticum Vulgare
  • wheat bran extract
  • wheat germ extract
  • wheat germ glyceride

The second way I often do is to go directly to the manufacturer’s site and contact them. These websites usually have a phone number, email, or chat service to contact and ask if their lipstick contains Gluten. They won’t risk lying to you.

Why do makeup companies use Gluten in Lipstick?

The number one reason why companies use Gluten in their lipstick is to provide a better, smoother, silkier texture.

Like the way gluten is used in food, gluten-based additives are used as binders, which also provide additional moisture. Wheat ingredients are cheap and easy to come by, unlike the alternatives used in gluten-free products. Hence most of the time, gluten-free lipstick or gluten-free products, in general, are more expensive.

My Favorite Gluten-Free Lipstick

COVERGIRL Outlast: I have to admit that this Covergirl combo is one of the most used products when I get to go out. It is my go-to lipstick and moisturizer. It isn’t that expensive, and the color does truly last a long time. I feel it stands up to the most expensive brands like Stila and Lipsense with the bonus that it is gluten-free.
